Reiki Usui = the energy of awakening
Reiki Karuna® = the energy of elevation
Until the early 1990s, we knew of only one system of Reiki “energy healing method” – Usui Reiki – as passed down to us by Mikao Usui, Dr. Hayashi and Mrs. Takata. But then, towards the end of 1990, two American Reiki Masters, Marcy Miller and Kathleen Milner, by a rather unusual combination of circumstances, "received" three symbols.
This event brings a new opening in the world of Reiki.
Shortly after, other people in the USA are "affected" by this same phenomenon and very quickly five other Sanskrit symbols are received in similar circumstances. These eight symbols then begin to circulate in the universe of Reiki. As people receive them in initiation, they realize their healing potential, the intensity of the energy of these symbols and the transformations that take place in their own lives.
The Reiki Karuna® system was set up in 1995 by William L. Rand, Usui Reiki Master practicing in the United States. Having discovered that these Sanskrit symbols were very powerful and helped to find roots in the earth, he knew how to combine intuition and meditation, with a work of synthesis of different traditional methods (Tibetan, other cultures, etc.) to set up a new Reiki healing system.
In a meditation, William "hears" the word Karuna. He does not know this word but when he discovers that it is a Sanskrit word which means Compassion, he knows that he has found exactly the name that this new system of Reiki was to bear.
Karuna is a word used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Zen. It is used to describe any initiative aimed at lessening the suffering of others and means "compassionate action". It designates the action of healing and spreading the compassion of the Universe on all creation.
It is necessary to have been initiated into Reiki Usui Level THREE in order to be initiated into Reiki Karuna®; and it is necessary to have been initiated into Reiki Usui Level FOUR in order to be initiated into Reiki Karuna® mastery teaching.
The strength of the symbols taught in Reiki Karuna® makes it a complementary Reiki to Reiki Usui.
The Reiki Karuna® energy works on all planes of the Being both at the level of rooting, physical and spiritual healing as well as the release of unconscious and karmic blockages.
Karuna comes from the Sanskrit word meaning "Compassionate Action". It helps to work closely with the Guides of Light and intensely develops distance work. Students who are initiated into Compassion Reiki often have contact with their Guides or Angels or Higher Self and feel the presence of Beings of Light.
Reiki Karuna® allows you to work in depth on:
